Home Remedies for a Sore Tongue

The tongue is a very sensitive part of the body, so a sore tongue can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. It can appear as small bumps, red lumps or raised areas of the tongue.
There is no particular known cause for a sore tongue. However, the most common cause is accidentally biting the tongue or injuring the tongue while using a toothpick or toothbrush.
Other causes include a viral infection, heredity, hormonal changes in the body, a weak immune system, eating too spicy and salty foods, intestinal or stomach disorders, stress, and deficiencies of minerals and vitamins like zinc, folic acid, iron and the B group of vitamins.
Some natural remedies can help heal and ease the pain of a sore tongue. However, if the pain and inflammation persist for a week, consult your doctor or dentist.
